Saturna’s Refugee Support Group is looking for a long-term rental on Saturna Island to accommodate a Syrian refugee family. While we don’t yet know the family composition, it is safe to assume they will have children, as families with young children are seen as the most vulnerable and are given priority treatment when it comes to resettlement opportunities. We are looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom home for a reasonable price for a minimum lease of 6 months. If you are uncertain if your home is suitable, please contact us regardless as we will consider any reasonable offer.
We know that there are a number of rarely used and empty homes on this island. Beloved vacation homes that you haven’t been able to visit as much as you’d like or homes you’ve put on the market but haven’t sold. What if instead of an empty house you had a year’s worth of rent cheques in your pocket? A team of dedicated volunteers, lead by the experienced Mike Davis, overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of your home? The chance to make a huge difference in the lives of a displaced family?
Some of these children were born into the refugee camp. It is difficult to fathom that the only home they’ve ever known is the 10x10ft tent they share with their entire family. But just imagine those children walking through the doorway of their new home for the very first time. A home that is safe and full of opportunities for learning, exploration, and growth. You can be the person to make this all possible.
